Out with the old, in with the new!
During the annual Fall refit period Axia got an early Christmas present in the form of new carbon spars constructed by Offshore Spars.
The main mast has been increased by nine feet and the mizzen by three. This means an almost 20% increase in potential upwind sail area and a 15% increase in downwind sail area.
The weather was perfect for the crane
First the main mast and then the mizzen.
The topsides were painted as part of the refit and again the weather was perfect for the launch

The weather was considerably colder for the craning of the new rigs

Newport Bermuda Race 2010
Axia was fortunate enough to have a front row seat for the start of the 2010 Newport-Bermuda Race. Axia and her Owner were approached by the New York Yacht Club 2 weeks ago in order to see if she could be available as the Committee and Start boat for the race.
The regular starting boat from the US Coastguard was called down to the Gulf as more assistance was needed in the clean up of the current oil crisis
There couldn’t have been a better way to start a Birthday celebration weekend for Peter and his friends!
